Documentation strategies
Kesteven and Associates adds value to an organisation’s activities and intellectual property by improving the quality and management of the organisation’s documentation.
Our documentation strategy projects aim to —
- Simplify the information model
- Improve the accessibility, usability, and presentation of online and hard-copy documents
- Establish better methods for the management, maintenance, and delivery of documents and documentation content
A documentation strategy gives an organisation guidelines, templates, and definitions for the types of information it should be documenting, and the purpose and content of the documents it should have.

Our projects typically deliver —
- a core set of documents to provide critical mass and serve as examples
- training and mentoring to enable the organisation’s own personnel to take over the development and maintenance of the documents.
We design documentation to meet the needs of the three types of technical reader —
- Managers, who must agree on and communicate how they intend the organisation to function
- Employees, who must understand their roles and responsibilities and how to do their work efficiently, effectively, safely and in compliance with the organisation's statutory and commercial obligations
- Auditors, who must validate and verify the organisation’s behaviour and performance
The three types of reader have different needs. Unless the documentation meets all three types of need, it falls almost immediately into disuse.
