Position descriptions

The information used to prepare process descriptions can also be used to prepare position descriptions. Process descriptions are essentially tables of tasks organized in logical sequence; position descriptions present the same tasks, organized by position. (Of course, position descriptions contain other information as well.)

Linking position and process documentation in this way has important advantages:

  • Position descriptions can be updated readily - or automatically - whenever processes are changed.

  • It is easy to reassign responsibilities - temporarily or permanently - if a person is absent or a position is abolished.

  • The logic of the workload assignment is readily apparent.
